The Kronplatz – plan de corones holiday region in winter
On arrival, every guest will receive a travel ticket from their host (where the host is a member of the local Tourist Association). The HOLIDAY PASS entitles guests to use all public transport throughout the whole of South Tyrol. This means it is also valid for ski buses and the regional “Ski Pustertal Express” train, providing a direct connection from Percha-Perca/Ried to the Kronplatz-Plan de Corones ski resort. The Ski Pustertal Express adds a whole new dimension to skiing – allowing winter sports enthusiasts to move easily back and forth between the Kronplatz and Sexten Dolomites ski resorts. So away you go – to 200 kilometres of ski slopes!
Time never stands still at Kronplatz:
- New gondola lift “Belvedere”: Travelling at 6m/s, the new lift can carry up to 3300 persons per hour – more than any other lift in the Kronplatz region. And the ultra-modern facility has even more to offer: up to 15 people can travel in each cabin – 9 seated, and 6 standing. Last but not least, the Belvedere gondola lift will be the third lift in the Kronplatz region to offer free WiFi in all cabins.
- The popular Alpen ski slope is currently being widened. This will make the layout of the slope clearer, which will in turn improve the level of safety. Furthermore, a 350m arm will be added to the Ried ski slope, making the slope more accessible to beginners and children.
- MMM Corones now also open for skiers! The sixth – and final – museum created by the legendary mountaineer Reinhold Messner, which ceremonially opened in the summer of 2015, will also be open in winter for visitors to Kronplatz summit.
Speikboden ski resort:
During the winter season, the spectacular mountain igloos will be back on Speikboden – for an adventurous night out under the stars. And this year, the number of igloos had been increased from two to five! Speikboden is also home to the longest toboggan run in South Tyrol. This run covers a distance of around 10 kilometres and descends some 1000m. Thanks to new snowmaking equipment, it’s more navigable than ever! New features have also been added to the Snow Park, which is 700m long in total.
Brunico-Bruneck in pole position among “feelgood communities” once again
According to a survey carried out by Italy’s “Centro Studi Sintesi” research centre on behalf of that country’s business newspaper “Il Sole 24 Ore”, in 2015 the small town of Brunico-Bruneck has once again emerged as the happiest small community in Italy. The quality of life in Italy’s small municipalities was measured on the basis of 47 different indicators. Brunico-Bruneck came out on top of the 157 contenders and is thus able to boast the highest quality of living of all the small communities throughout Italy. This number one ranking has now been achieved by Brunico-Bruneck for the second year in a row.
Magic Carpet Kid’s Area & Snow tubing in Valdaora-Olang:
Once again, there will be new activities for families at Valdaora-Olang Kid’s Village. The magic carpet on the edge of the woods between Valdaora di Mezzo-Mitterolang and Valdaora di Sopra-Oberolang is being extended by about 20 metres, and will be complemented by a brand new magic carpet for very young children. This means children can now enjoy an ice rink, two magic carpets (ski slopes with carpet lift), a toboggan run and the new snow tubing slope (rubber tyre run).
Energy efficiency in Campo Tures-Sand in Taufers
In Campo Tures-Sand in Taufers, natural resources such as water, sun, wind and wood are used to produce energy. Over the last ten years, the municipality has become a pioneer in the field of climate protection and the production of green energy, and has won various national and international awards for its efforts. Thanks to an intelligent energy strategy, Campo Tures-Sand in Taufers is already able to produce far more energy than it uses. But the municipality has a most ambitious goal – to be the first CO² neutral municipality in all South Tyrol!
